Poetry as Spiritual Practice

John Brehm, Sat. Nov. 10, 7-8:30pm, $15

Come enjoy an evening of mindful poetry and guided meditation, and learn how poetry can support your spiritual practice. Poetry can be regarded as something to be analyzed, a problem to be solved, a code to be cracked. But what if we dropped all that and approached poems as spiritual friends and teachers, offering us wisdom, compassion, clear seeing, and a heightened awareness of our human predicament? Our experience of poetry would be much richer—and much more enjoyable! This evening program will begin with a guided meditation, followed by a reading from The Poetry of Impermanence, Mindfulness, and Joy—with poems by Chuang Tzu, Han Shan, Basho, Issa, Pablo Neruda, Denise Levertov, Billy Collins, Ellen Bass, and others—and a period for questions and discussion.

John Brehm is the award-winning author of two books of poems, Sea of Faith and Help Is on the Way, and the editor of The Poetry of Impermanence, Mindfulness and JoyJohnBrehmPoet.com
