The Healing Hand: Being Present for the Dying and the Living in the Things that Matter Most

Sue Knight Deutsch, Tues. June 5, 6:30-8:30pm, $25

What shall I do, what shall I say, and who am I in the face of this? These are universal questions that often arise when we are faced with the illness or the impending death of a loved one. Drawn from Sue Knight Deutsch’s book The Healing Hand: 5 Discussions to Have with the Dying Who Are Living, we’ll connect about the things that matter most in human life and relationship. Learn to be present for those you care about in the moment through breathing exercises and meditation, and discover your own language to clarify your experience through writing prompts, group discussion, and the exploration of “what if” scenarios. All you need to bring is yourself.

Originally trained as a psychiatric social worker in London, England, Sue Knight Deutsch is an ordained Cantor, commissioned as a Minister by the Jewish Theological Seminar. She received her hospice training through Vitas Hospice while serving as the spiritual leader and chaplain of an assisted living facility for 16 years. With all her training, it was the experience of losing her husband to cancer in mid-life that deepened her calling.
