Flowing Movement T’ai Chi With Karin

T’ai chi is an internal art. Though the flowing movements can be learned just as one learns a dance, its beauty emerges through the discovery of deep inner principles. This discovery is always a transforming and holistic “Aha,” awakening one, step-by-step, ever more fully into the present. For improved balance, blood pressure, calmness and vitality, t’ai chi is hard to beat. This is a class for experienced and self-motivated t’ai chi players. All previous students of t’ai chi are invited, whether you have forgotten everything or not! The class will support students’ progress through Yang Style simplified form. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Beginners can join this class by adding an extra half-hour and coming at 6 pm. Please specify that you are a beginner when you register. Karin LaBriere fell in love with t’ai chi in 1978 and has taught in Portland and Vancouver for many years. She is also an NRB manager and long-time buyer.

Summer is a wonderful time to renew your energy and build momentum towards health, strength and flexibility. Join Defne Suman for this introductory class designed to empower you with a basic understanding of yoga postures, meditation and breathing exercises of the ancient art of Hatha Yoga. During these classes we will also discuss yoga philosophy, life style and diet. In this small group, personal attention will be directed to each student’s needs with an emphasis on discovery and joy. This evening will focus on the Buddha’s teaching of developing insight through present time awareness. A step-by-step explanation of the four levels of mind training will be offered as well as a guided meditation to explore these teachings. Noah Levine, author of Dharma Punx and Against The Stream, is a Buddhist teacher, author and counselor and he was trained to teach by Jack Kornfield. Noah is the founding teacher of Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society, with a center in Los Angeles and over 20 affiliated groups around North America.
