As a society, we need to understand where our resistance, fears, terrors, and behavioral patterns around death, dying and end of life come from. We will trace our earliest beginnings in the New England settlements of the 1600’s to discover how they looked at and handled death and how their beliefs have trickled down to us. By discussing our upbringing, we can begin to see how we are linked to this cultural past. We’ll also look at death in nature using photographs of the NW captured by Swallowtail Studio artist Ariel Kaplan. These images are used as a stimulus to begin to examine our own ideas and beliefs surrounding death. Come join us to explore, share, question, and talk about this unspoken topic. Barbara Rose Kaplan is passionate about understanding death, its physical reality starting with death in nature, the options for recycling the body, and how to participate at dying. 
Jimmy Be Free heard his calling to music at a very early age and began competing in old time fiddling contests throughout the Northwest with his grandparents accompanying him on guitar and piano. Today he provides “Music on the Porch” for us at New Ren between 1 and 3 pm. Drop by and pause with us to enjoy the universality and beauty of his music. Peacemaker, Jimmy’s 7 string violin with a range of cello through violin, coupled with a Boss RC-50 Loop Station, allows him the artistic freedom to play what he is feeling in any given moment. Rhythms and melodies seem to form themselves during live performance and Jimmy credits the energy of the specific audience with the extreme variations offered.
