Autobiography of a Yogi
by Paramhansa Yogananda
reprint of the Philosophical Library 1946 First Edition (Crystal Clarity Publishers)
Walk, step by step, with this son of India, whose unwavering, lifelong resolve was to know God intimately, and to teach the Kriya Yoga of his gurus' lineage. His mother was a devotee of an Indian yogi guru, his father, an executive of the Indian railroad. Yogananda graduated from college and established a school for boys. Invited to speak in the US in 1920, he stayed on until his death in 1952. Towering above religious differences, Yogananda traveled and lectured to thousands of people, offered a follow-up correspondence course and encouraged meditation groups and centers around the world. His story of dynamic calm, love, strength and wisdom is a beacon of hope to anyone who hungers for God's presence. Reviewed by Roberta Beckman.

From Onions to Pearls
by Satyam Nadeen
A true story of one man's spiritual awakening under the most intense awakening under the most intense conditions imaginable. In March of 1992, Michael Clegg entered an overcrowded county jail near Jacksonville, Florida, convicted of the manufacture of an illegal drug called Ecstacy. He was held there two years awaiting sentencing. While in prison he realized that a lifetime of spiritual searching had brought him no closer to the elusive state he was seeking, so he gave up trying. In surrender, he was overwhelmed with relief and bliss. The next several years were spent in a deepening process he calls "deliverance," as layers of preconditioned ego personality were peeled away to reveal the eternal Pearl of Consciousness. This is a wonderful story and a great pointer to awakening and great reminder that consciousness is all there is, that you are not the doer and neither is anyone else. The Path - Autobiography of a Western Yogi
by Swami Kriyananda (Donald Walters)
"Walter," as Paramhansa Yogananda called him, was an American who grew up and was educated in Europe, and returned to the U.S. to attend Brown University. At age 22, in his senior year, he read Yogananda's autobiography and took the next bus to California. He became Swami Kriyananda, a monk, minister, and disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda. Yogananda had envisioned colonies of spiritual people living and working together harmoniously. Kriyananda was dedicated to that vision, and bought property near Nevada City, California, in 1967, for the Ananda Meditation Retreat. Ananda now has meditation groups, churches, and retreat centers around the world. Basing his whole life on the teachings and meditation techniques of his guru, Don Walters has fostered environments, music, dance, drama, art, and an education for life program. He has authored countless books, musical scores, audio tapes, and videos. He has traveled extensively, speaks many languages, and at present resides at the Ananda center in Assisi, Italy.
