Creating a Meditation Practice

Journey to the Wild Divine
from Wild Divine Project. This is a fun and enlightening journey, a biofeedback adventure for the body, mind and spirit. The “Lightstone” energy unit plugs into your PC or Mac and you clip the magic rings on to your fingers and wonderful graphics lead you on a journey using the power of your thoughts, feelings, breath and concentration to master challenges on the journey. Each encounter teaches you how to get into a deep state of meditative awareness or how to raise your joyful and happy energy on command. The following are among the many adventures you’ll have: use deep concentration to master zen archery, build a magic stairway with your breath, juggle energy spheres with your laughter. While we adults have to work at learning the breath and body challenges, I’ve found children do this naturally! Reviewed by Andrew Macklem-Cross.

Mudras: Yoga In Your Hands by Gertrud Hirschi Mudras: Yoga In Your Hands
by Gertrud Hirschi
This is the fourth book of Swiss Yoga teacher Gertrud Hirschi, and is translated from German. "Mudra," she explains, "is a term that can be used to signify a gesture, a mystic position of the hands, a seal, a symbol, eye or body positions, or breathing techniques...mudras engage certain areas of the brain and/or soul." She presents drawings and explanations of 52 hand positions, some for physical health, emotional health, and spiritual growth, and drawings of six hand energy traditions. She offers nutritional and herbal guidelines, affirmations, Hatha yoga positions, and an appendix about the chakras. Her message is that mudras are powerful in themselves, but even more so when combined with the other disciplines she recommends. Reviewed by Roberta Beckman.
