The Path: Autobiography of a Western Yogi by Donald WaltersThe Path - Autobiography of a Western Yogi
by Swami Kriyananda (Donald Walters)
"Walter," as Paramhansa Yogananda called him, was an American who grew up and was educated in Europe, and returned to the U.S. to attend Brown University. At age 22, in his senior year, he read Yogananda's autobiography and took the next bus to California. He became Swami Kriyananda, a monk, minister, and disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda. Yogananda had envisioned colonies of spiritual people living and working together harmoniously. Kriyananda was dedicated to that vision, and bought property near Nevada City, California, in 1967, for the Ananda Meditation Retreat. Ananda now has meditation groups, churches, and retreat centers around the world. Basing his whole life on the teachings and meditation techniques of his guru, Don Walters has fostered environments, music, dance, drama, art, and an education for life program. He has authored countless books, musical scores, audio tapes, and videos. He has traveled extensively, speaks many languages, and at present resides at the Ananda center in Assisi, Italy.
