Graceful Dying

The Tibetan Book of the Dead
Translation and commentary by Francesca Fremantle and Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche
The Tibetan Book of the Dead which has been heard about by many people, is not just a book but a guide through the sacred passage of dying. Step by step the chapters reveal to us the inner process of letting go of the elements of the body. This guide through the 'bardo' is intended to allow us to progress to enlightenment or to a better rebirth. The teachings offer the reader freedom from the fear of dying. The first popular translation of The Tibetan Book of the Dead was by Evans-Wentz. In 1975 this new, current translation was published by Shambala Publications 'Classic'. The underlying message of the text is illuminated in eloquent, clear text. In Tibetan Buddhism, these words are read to the dying person. Becoming familiar with the words of the text will ease and direct the mind thru the dying process. What a gift to humanity! Reviewed by Jacqueline Mandell.
