An Interview with Caroline Sutherland
Caroline: I started working as a Physician's Assistant and allergy tester in a busy clinic in the Pacific NW. The doctor specialized in environmental medicine. Soon after my training ended I began to received body impressions about patients. Then I began receiving direct guidance about patient's imbalances. Luckily, the doctor I worked with valued these impressions and often included my information in his evaluation and treatment of his patients. I was very fortunate to have his validation because having this ability can be quite unnerving. Validation that this ability is useful and practical really helps. Connie: Let me ask you about some of the things in your book. You talk about cancer as an imbalance, and that it can relate to an over abundance of sugars in the diet. Caroline: That's right, it can. I believe there are two reasons for serious illness. In one, the soul is choosing a way to exit this life. But most often, it is a wake up call for people to get their act together on all levels, not just the physical. Several studies show that cancer cells, just like a lot of bacteria, fungi, yeast or parasites, flourish around glucose. Connie: How do the two body types relate to this? Caroline: Attaining health is not a mystery. As spiritual people we have many tools to widen our perspective. The body type information is one of these tools. Most people I see are central nervous system types. Their key imbalance has to do with their nervous system which is usually taxed because these folks have trouble processing sugar/carbs/starches. A central nervous system type is highly motivated, usually over extends themselves, gives away their power, is very sensitive, can read people well, is sensitive to nature, and is very expressive. Healthwise, they consume too much sugars in the form of carbs and starches. Cutting out sugar, in any form, and stimulants, and adding protein to all meals and snacks really helps. Carbohydrates and fruit can be eaten, but need to be eaten with protein. Since these people don't have robust GI tracts they need enzymes to help with digestion. They are wonderful people, they give their all and go the extra mile. They can be thin and wiry but if they have weight issues it's because they eat too many carbs which convert immediately to fat. The other body type which I don't see very often is called the digestive lymphatic hormonal type. It applies to people with African American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, Indian or Eastern European heritage and is a completely different from the central nervous system type. The digestive lymphatic hormonal type is more solid than the central nervous system type. Their health issues are very deep and often related to their hearts and deeper processes like the lymph system. The hormones are usually out of balance; their thyroid is often low but they tend to have much more strength in their physical body so I see fewer of them. They can be blocked at a lymphatic level which has to do with emotions. They can have sinus problems and lumps, cysts and bumps. Caffeine affects them and so does dairy. So we take caffeine and dairy out and, of course, release the emotions, and that should unblock the lymph. Exercise is very important for this type. Connie: So how does this relate to ourselves as spiritual beings? Caroline: A person on their path, working diligently on their evolution, and not eating right may not have physical strength that matches the soul's evolution. I see that many times. I go to bookstore all across the country and I see these beautiful, highly evolved spiritual beings who's systems are severely taxed. If they don't work on balancing they will poop out long before their mission is complete because they are not understanding the relationship of what they are feeding their body and how it affects cell tissue. The relationship is fundamental and yet so deep and powerful. Connie: In another chapter you talk about vegetarians and how they can be out of balance. Caroline: Not all vegetarians. Millions of vegetarians are very healthy. However, here in the west, which is made up mainly of people who are central nervous system types, the biggest problem is how their bodies handle sugar/carbs/starches. With a vegetarian diet unless one is very aware of how to balance their diet, they often need much more protein. And candida-abicans is often a big problem. Almost every vegetarian I've ever seen has yeast imbalances at the root of their health problem. The reason is that they eat too much sugar and don't getting enough protein. Connie: So, would tofu take care of it? Caroline: Tofu, beans, lentils, seeds, eggs if their systems can handle these foods. But since central nervous system types have given their power away down the line and don't usually have robust GI tract, beans and soy are almost impossible for them to digest. Usually, going back to having fish on a consistent basis helps. I don't want to give a blanket suggestion because they're are healthy vegetarians, but I haven't seen very many in North America. This sounds like I'm only interested in symptoms but actually I'm more interested in correction and bringing the body back to balance. The body wants to repair; it doesn't want to break down even though we do all kinds of things that are very detrimental. Our bodies keeps going and trying to repair and change no matter what we do, and at any age. Look at Louise Hay, she is in her 70's and does extremely well. I've seen over 70,000 people and it's obvious to me that age does not mean anything. By the way, Louise Hay has been very helpful to me. She realized that there are plenty of self-help materials out there for spiritual and emotional issues, but not many tools to help us balance at the physical level. That's why she was so excited about my book, The Body Knows. My book is now in it's second printing and is so practical. Connie: The last thing I want to ask you about from your book is the chapter on addictions. Caroline: That chapter is the most widely quoted chapter from my book! Spiritual people have a wonderful life, but there are many hills and valleys that come with taking on a spiritual mission. We need to balance fear and the unknown, and trust and the unknown. And while we work on developing total trust a great deal of fear can surround us. People use addictions to numb the fear and pain. Succumbing to these addictions pulls us off our spiritual path. My book makes it easy for people to see what foods triggers their immune reactions and cravings. Many times following one of the food plans can help a person overcome cravings and get back on their path. It is not just diet and nutrition, its emotions, spiritual reasons, personal development, higher mastery. Connie: The food plans look really great. I found them at the back of your book. Caroline: And following one of these programs a person can begin to feel better in less than 30 days. If they don't feel better, it's not their plan. Whatever plan they follow, they should be feeling much, much better within just a few weeks. After 30 days they can go back to having the occasional exposure to things the body doesn't want. It's so easy. People are always calling me a few weeks into their program saying "Thank you. I didn't know I could feel so good!" Connie: Thanks, Caroline.
